HELP is Here
The Higher Education Learner Programme (HELP) is an online course designed to assist any students new to SETU (or any continuing students who still have questions). There is useful information here whether you are a full-time, on-site undergraduate; a part-time, online lifelong learner or anyone in between!
We will cover 8 topics in 12 weeks, guiding you through what you need to know and why. If you have a question, here is where you can start.

In University, you'll be introduced to a number of different platforms and application that you will be required to use for college work. In the first section of this Topic, you'll find out how to get started with the Virtual Learning Environment, Turnitin and Office 365.
In the second section, we will introduce you to a range of apps that support learning, from making it easier to get through long lists of readings to finding strategies to stay focused and organise all that college work!!
Digital Skills
27% of SETU Students, we surveyed, said that Organisation and Time Management were the most important skills that students needed to know. If you can get to grips with these, it will be really beneficial throughout your whole university experience and beyond.
Whether you’re a recent school-leaver learning how to work independently or a lifelong learner juggling multiple demands, this topic has techniques, templates and tips that will make organisation and time management easier. Investing the time now in trying these strategies will definitely save you time later on.
Organisation and Time Management
In this topic, we look at three of the most common skills required throughout university: Note-taking/making, Group work and Presentations. We flag some of the most common problems students face with these skills and provide solutions for how to overcome them.

Study Skills
This section will help you to demonstrate your knowledge of a particular subject, to explain ideas clearly to your reader, and to use evidence to back up the points or arguments that you are making. This can seem daunting but here you'll find examples, get advice on tone and structure, and have the chance to check your knowledge.
Academic Writing
This section provides information on why and how to reference. You can find a very simple overview, look at examples and try out citations and referencing for yourself.
The Hot Topic for Citations and Referencing will be available through YouTube Live @setu_tlc. Here, SETU Librarians, Breda Conell and Kim Harte discuss rally useful tips on how to find information for assignments and how to refer to research within your assignments.

We would love to hear from you! We will be online and on campus throughout the semester, and we would love to get your input and hear your questions about that week’s topic.
There will be a live element online for every topic– a workshop, a webinar, a discussion or an Ask Me Anything session. We would love to get your feedback on what we should focus on and what questions you would like answered.
