The Teaching and Learning Centre works with academic, library, and other support colleagues as well as the Students Union to provide a range of resources to improve the student experience. The main hub for resources and support for students is located on the TLC Student Hub on Blackboard.

Examples of recent initiatives with the Students’ Union include Ask and Answer sessions, our ‘Hear to Help’ campaign to share practical advice with students during COVID-19, and the March to Exams online study sessions to help students study together online in supervised sessions.

Online Academic Support for Maths
One-to-one online sessions with a tutor are available to schedule through the Teaching & Learning Centre. There is no charge and this help is available to all students. Visit the TLC Student Hub on Blackboard for the schedule of support sessions for Maths. Booking for these sessions with a tutor is via email to [email protected].
Supporting Academic Writing
One-to-one online sessions with a tutor are available to schedule through the Teaching & Learning Centre. There are also themed sessions scheduled (i.e. Referencing). This schedule is also on the TLC Student Hub on Blackboard. There is no need to book for these sessions; you may join the session at the scheduled time using the Collaborate link that is on the schedule. There is no charge and this help is available to all students.
The PACE Programme
SETU Carlow Library and the Teaching and Learning Centre have developed The PACE Programme – a suite of modules to help you Plan, Access, Critique, and Evaluate resources in the library that you can use for your studies and to help you in completing your assignments. Published modules in this programme are linked below and are also available on the Library pages as well as the TLC Student Hub:
Module 1: Using the library and online library. This module guides you though accessing library resources and using your library account
Module 2: Your first assignment. This module provides support to get started with your first assignment, including locating journals and using databases.
Module 3: Citations and references. This module looks at how to include citations in your writing and how to format references using the SETU Carlow Harvard Referencing system.
