The aim of the blended learning special purpose award is to enable registered nurses to develop an advanced level of theoretical knowledge, competencies and skills to undertake a comprehensive health assessment in practice.

  • HSE staff may be eligible to apply for funding to their local NMPDU
  • Delivered via a blend of online and face-to-face delivery to allow greater flexibility to learners

Delivery

Blended delivery over 1 semester with 1 contact day per week:

  • Online approx. 9 days per semester
  • Onsite approx. 3 days per semester one day every 4th week

This 10 credit special purpose award will support students to

  • Undertake a comprehensive Advanced Health Assessment
  • Integrate and synthesize knowledge of altered homeostasis
  • Develop skills in order to make accurate clinical judgements
  • Describe anatomical and physiological organ systems
  • Develop strategies for Enhancing Interdisciplinary Collaboration

To be eligible for this programme applicants must:

  • Be a registered Nurse with NMBI
  • Be currently employed in health care provision
  • Hold a level 8 qualification

*Applicants who do not have a level 8 qualification may apply for entry to the programme in accordance with the procedures outlined in the SETU Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy.

Due to the blended learning delivery within this course students should have access to a PC / Mac, a headset with a mic, and a broadband internet connection from home, so as to be able to fully participate in the course.

  • Basic IT skills are essential to complete this course.

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Nursing
  • MSc in Professional Nursing

This course provides the learner with the opportunity to undertake Level 9 education and advance their clinical practice, knowledge and skills. Its content supports the Department of Health’s (2019) policy on the development of nursing and midwifery graduates towards roles as Advanced Nurse and Midwife Practitioners.
