The Certificate is designed to provide an introduction to organisational psychology, exploring both traditional and modern psychological theories and perspectives. It aims to critically examine these concepts while offering insights into the core topics of the discipline. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how psychological principles are practically applied in workplace settings, fostering self-confidence and empowerment in the process.

Additionally, the Certificate highlights the significance of organisational behaviour theories and their application in managing teams and projects effectively. Through this program, learners will explore the value these theories bring to enhancing teamwork, improving productivity, and driving successful outcomes in diverse organisational environments.

  • Leadership and Power in the workplace: Leadership and Power in the workplace, Leadership Theory and Styles. Work Groups and Work Teams, Career management, Workplace stress/ Health and well-being.
  • Diversity and culture: Diversity and culture, The role and impact of technology on workers, Business ethics.
  • Personality and Values in OB: How is personality determined? The Big Five personality traits and links to OB. The MBTI personality framework Holland’s personality-job fit theory and other assessment tools used in OB. The importance of emotional intelligence in work performance.
  • Managerial applications of motivational concepts: Towards a definition of motivation Contrast hierarchy of needs theory; Theory x and Theory Y, ERG Theory, McClelland’s needs theory of motivation Applications of equity and expectancy theory Goal-setting and MBO Employee recognition programmes, skill-based plans, flexible benefits Implications for managers of motivational theories – an integrated approach.
  • The dynamics of group behaviour and team effectiveness: Tuckman’s model of group formation Gersick’s punctuated-equilibrium model A model of group behaviour How to create effective teams.
