Overview

The Certificate in Professional Video Editing will utilise Avid Media Composer, which is industry-standard software used in high end post-production. Although there are a number of high standard editing softwares, Avid Media Composer continues to dominate the film and high-end television and broadcast industries.

Students will be encouraged to work in line with professional workflows and practices and build their skills as professionals, who could potentially work as part of an editing team. The additional Avid Certification offered in this course stems from Avid Technology Corporation and is separate to the programme continuous assessments. SETU Carlow has been the only third level institute to provide the official Avid User Certification for many years and this status is sought-after in the post-production industry.

This programme will provide an insight into professional video editing techniques, workflow and practices. Students will learn practically on industry-standard post production software. Learners will understand how to navigate and operate industry standard video editing software to a professional standard. On completion of the course, learners will be able to Show an understanding of the range of customisable options in professional post-production software. Student will also be able to create custom effects using nesting, layering and keyframes.
