It is not uncommon to doubt whether you picked the right course on the CAO, especially given the wealth of choices out there. If you were offered a place at SETU and think you would like to study on a different course at the University, in some instances, this can be facilitated.

To find out if this may be an option for you, please read the information below carefully. Changing course is a serious matter and we recommend that in order to make an informed decision you discuss your options with family members, course leaders, lecturers or Head of Department as successful applications for transfer are final and cannot be reversed.

Criteria

  • Only CAO applicants who have accepted and registered* for a place to the first year of a course for the current academic year are eligible to apply for transfer.
  • Students must have attained the cut-off points and entry requirements for the course they wish to transfer to and are normally expected to have indicated a preference for this course on their CAO application.
  • Mature student applications that do not fulfill the standard entry requirements will be assessed individually.
  • Non CAO International students on study visas must consult the International Office with regards to transferring course as there may be visa and fee implications of transfer.
  • There must be available places on the course.  Please note that some courses have a restricted number of places and transfers will not be considered to these courses.  Please refer to the list of such courses displayed on the "Excluded Courses" tab.
  • Only one transfer application per student can be accepted.
  • If transfer is accepted you will not be able to defer your place on the course you transferred into.
  • Students may be required to attend a meeting with the Retention Officer as part of the transfer process.
  • Students may not change course until they have received notification of the outcome of their application.
  • Transfer applications to the Department of Science (WD076 and WD096) are subject to available lab groups as well as an available place.

Transferring

The process of transferring programme cannot be completed until after the close of CAO season (usually after the third week of October). This process is not intended to facilitate students wishing to circumvent the transparency and fairness of the CAO system.

After the close of the CAO season, the Office of the Registrar will contact you in writing to confirm the arrangements for re-registration and payment of fees if applicable.

Until the confirmation of the transfer is complete, successful transfer applicants will not have access to the relevant modules in Moodle, will not appear on the official class register list and will not be issued a proof of registration letter for the programme onto which they are transferring.

Subject to available places, students on certain courses will be required to complete Garda Vetting Forms. These forms will be posted to the relevant transfer student(s).
