Regulations for Student Registration
- You, the student, are responsible for ensuring that your registration is complete and correct. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that they are registered for repeat modules and aware of the examination timetable. Please check the Examination Timetables and Venues section of the website and / or department offices prior to the examination sessions for timetable and examination locations. You must be a registered student in order to engage with University facilities and before attending/engaging with the University.
- All students are allocated a unique student email account. It is the University policy that all official email is sent to this account. Please note that this account will only be activated 24-hours after you have completed the online registration process. It is essential that you check this email account on a regular basis. Your student email account is your [email protected] (ie [email protected]) and is accessed using the original password you received. Please make sure to register your computer account for the self-service password reset facility. To change your password when you are not on campus you need to register it first by going to the registration section here and following the instructions.
Data Protection
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect on May 25th 2018 and replaced the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC. From that date, GDPR, in conjunction with specific Irish law, will give more rights to the individual and more obligations on South East Technological University, in terms of accountability and transparency obligations, when using and storing personal data. There are many rights enshrined in GDPR, including the right to be informed about the way in which SETU uses, shares and stores personal information.
SETU collects, processes and stores personal data on students, staff and others, including those who use our website. As SETU gathers data in a variety of different ways, the University is creating a number of policies explaining in detail how this happens and also what rights individuals have in relation to this gathering. In light of our responsibilities to comply with the new regulations of GDPR, SETU Waterford is updating existing policies & processes and these will be available shortly. Under GDPR, SETU will keep personal data only for specified and lawful purposes, will obtain and process the data fairly, if storing the data will keep it accurate and up-to-date and will process it only in ways compatible with the purposes for which it was initially given. NOTE:
Personal data will be shared with the Department of Social Protection, Student Universal Support Ireland – SUSI (where relevant) and the Revenue Commissioners for the purpose of enabling them to execute their services.
Please note that your data will also be shared with the Higher Education Authority for funding allocation, statistical analysis and policy formulation purposes. The data shared include personal data such as name, address, Eircode, PPSN, grant status and CAO data. By continuing with your registration, you are agreeing to your data being shared with the Higher Education Authority.
