Students who are carrying modules, or are not progressing, and are taking a semester or year to retake failed modules are considered as repeat learners for those modules.

Online registration for Repeat Learner students for the academic year 24/25 will open during the week of the 23rd September. All queries can be sent to [email protected]

Below are a list of common FAQs that Repeat Learners may have that may help with your query. If you don’t find the answer to your question below, please reach out to the team at [email protected]

General Information

A Repeat Learner is a student who has outstanding modules from previous academic years.

  • Have the right to engage with lecturers as appropriate.
  • Have the right, but not the obligation, unless specified on the Approved Course Schedule, to attend lectures if practical to do so.
  • Pay a fee of €200 per 5 credit module, which is less than the full credit cost of attending, in order to recognise that the Repeat Learner category is intended to foster engagement rather than full attendance at the University.

NOTE: This opportunity to defer is only applicable to a Repeat Learner module in the current academic year.

We would strongly encourage you to register in October or January as relevant, for these modules to ensure you avail of the academic resources. Should you choose not to, you may register for these after the release of the Semester 2 examination results mid-June each year.

Note that the fee is €200 per 5 credit module regardless of when you register. Once registered, you will have access to the available academic resources of the University including library and Moodle. Moodle access will activate within 24 hours of a student registering. Should you experience any difficulty email [email protected]

You will be advised if there is an approved replacement module available. Please email [email protected] or contact your School Office and/ or Course Leader providing your student number, module code, module title, stage and credits.
