The Department of Sport and Exercise Science at SETU will host a celebration event on Wednesday, 26 February, at 10am in the main auditorium to honour the remarkable achievements of our graduate, Linda Kelly. Linda competes as a tandem pilot in both road and track cycling.

On the road, Linda secured double gold at the 2023 UCI World Championships alongside Katie-George Dunlevy, as well as victory in the UCI World Championships as pilot to Josephine Healion.

More recently, Linda achieved gold and silver at the Paris Paralympic Games and successfully defended her UCI World Championship title with Katie-George Dunlevy in Zurich last September.

Linda will be joined by her support team, all of whom are graduates of SETU in Waterford:

  • Jamie Blanchfield – National Paralympic Coach and Paralympic Programme Lead at Cycling Ireland
  • David Tobin – Performance Nutritionist at Sport Ireland Institute
  • Richard Doyle – Performance Operations Manager and Deputy Chef de Mission at Paralympics Ireland
  • Darragh Whelan – High Performance Athlete Assistant at Cycling Ireland

Additionally, Dr Ciara Losty and Dr Emma Saunders, both lecturers in the Department of Sport and Exercise Science who supported the Irish Paralympic team during the games, will also be present.

Linda and her team will offer a unique behind the scenes look at their journey to the Paralympic Games, sharing first-hand insights into their training, preparation, and competition experience at the highest level. This event is a great opportunity for anyone interested in high-performance sport to gain a deeper understanding of the structures, systems, and support networks that drive elite success in Ireland.

All are welcome to attend.
