We are delighted to present our programme of online and in-person events for Climate and Biodiversity Week 2024, which will take place across all SETU campuses. 

The aim of these events are to engage students and staff and inspire efforts throughout the University to combat climate change.

Adapting to Climate Change: Rainwater Gardens

  • Event open to: Open to All

Reduce Your Energy Use

  • Event open to: SETU Students and Staff
  • Venue - Main Building, Cork Road Campus

Visit our stand to learn more about what you can do to reduce the amount of energy you use – in association with Waterford City and County Council, South East Energy Agency, Aramark, Kelleher’s, and EWL Electric.

 

Energy Efficiency Day

Clever climate actions competition, energy awareness information, and a thermal imaging camera display.

 

What Goes Around, Comes Around – A beginners guide to the circular economy

Everyone is talking about the circular economy and how it can play a role in addressing climate change, but what does that actually mean? In association with Carlow County Council.

Education for Sustainable Development and the UN SDGs

EU-CONEXUS: Let’s Talk Climate!

Join the EU-CONEXUS team in an engaging discussion centered around what can we do to make SETU and our communities greener, healthier, and more attractive places in which to live, learn, play, and do business. How do we Embed Sustainability into Higher Education?

Dr Niamh Power of MTU, an expert in waste management and renewable energy, will lead a conversation on embedding sustainability in higher education.

 

Transforming Knowledge and Research for Just and Sustainable Futures: Towards a New Social Imaginary for Higher Education

Prof. Leon P. Tikly, UNESCO chair, in inclusive, good quality education and global chair in education at the University of Bristol, will explore how we can focus our efforts to a sustainable future.

Circular Economy: Book Swap and Book Club Launch

  • Info: Part of efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle our previously loved books. Drop off a classic and pick up a new literary genre!

 

Free Screening of Award Winning Film “Wilding”

  • Info: The story of a young couple who return their failing farm back to the wild, unknowingly initiating a grand experiment that has become one of the most significant rewilding experiments in Europe.

Climate Fresk Game Workshop

  • Info: This collaborative workshop will allow participants to take a step back, understand the science and consequences of climate change and trigger action.
