Department of Nursing and Healthcare - Leg Ulcer Masterclass

Date : Wed 16 Apr

Cost : €20 for qualified staff and €10 for undergraduate students

O' Connell Bianconi Building, Cork Road Campus, Waterford

This masterclass will serve as a practical guide to the prevention and management of leg ulcers, with the goal of supporting healthcare professionals in improving patient healing rates, reducing recurrence, and alleviating the burden of leg ulcers on patients.

Research highlights that patients can often endure years of discomfort due to suboptimal care when best practices could resolve the issue within weeks. Venous leg ulcers, being a chronic condition, have a high recurrence rate without preventive interventions. Early access to appropriate care, delivered by the right clinician, in the right setting, with the right resources is critical to improving patient outcomes and minimising unnecessary suffering.

This masterclass will provide the registrants with access to clinical presentations from regional tissue viability and vascular clinicians, practical workshops and a large wound care industry exhibition. This masterclass is aimed at student nurses, registered nurses, health care assistants and allied health professionals from acute, community and residential care settings. This masterclass will be open to both public and private healthcare services.
