Did you know that modern cars contain dozens of small computers that are used to control their operation to maximise efficiency and ensure passenger safety? These small microcontrollers communicate with each other over many networks, like a small internet in your car.

In this workshop we will explain how these networks of automotive computers communicate with each other to share sensor data and we will show you how they are programmed to respond to events happening in your car, such as the opening a door or the pressing a button. You’ll also get to see the actual systems from the latest Land Rover Defender and examine software code to control the operation of the vehicle’s indicators and speedometer.
