Erasmus+ stands as the European Union's flagship education and training initiative, opening doors for students to embark on transformative study and work experiences abroad.
As part of this program, students can choose to immerse themselves in a foreign academic setting for 3-12 months or engage in a traineeship for 2-12 months in a participating country.
At SETU, our students are embracing these growing opportunities, tapping into enriching study and work placements abroad. Research underscores that these experiences not only enhance academic horizons but also foster intercultural competencies and self-reliance. Beyond academics, Erasmus+ offers an unforgettable and fulfilling journey of personal growth and exploration.
You are eligible to take part in an Erasmus+ exchange if you satisfy the following conditions:
- You must be a SETU student who is currently enrolled in a formal higher education program that leads to a degree or diploma.
- You should hold citizenship in one of the participating countries.
- You must have successfully completed at least one year of your academic studies.
- You must be granted a placement by your SETU Erasmus+ Academic Advisor.
There are a total of 33 countries taking part, including
- the Member States of the European Union
- the three EFTA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway)
- SETU must have an Inter-Institutional Agreement with the host Institute before a study exchange can take place
- Traineeships do not need to have an Erasmus+ Inter-Institutional Agreement in place, but they must sign up to the Erasmus+ Charter.
As a matter of principle, the time spent in the host country must be fully recognised by the home institution. The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is the major instrument to facilitate academic recognition of periods of study in partner establishments. Recognition is given for the study period abroad by SETU. A Learning Agreement developed between you and your academic co-ordinator is a contract between you, SETU and your host college that indicates precisely what classes you will be taking abroad.
For Traineeship mobilities, recognition is given for your traineeship abroad by SETU. Again, a Traineeship Learning Agreement developed between you, your academic co-ordinator and the host employer is a contract between you, SETU and your host employer, that indicates precisely what your tasks will be, throughout your traineeship.
Yes! All students taking part in the Erasmus+ Mobility exchange will receive an Erasmus+ grant. This is in addition to any other grants you may be in receipt of.
The Erasmus+ "mobility" grant is intended to help cover the cost of travelling and the difference in the cost of living, between Ireland and the host country.
Please note: If the length of your studies/traineeship changes, then so will your grant amount!
Yes, any EU worker shall have the right to take up an activity as an employed person in any Member State irrespective of his/her place of residence under the same conditions as nationals. As an EU Citizen, you have the same rights and conditions as native students in your host EU country.
The online application for the Erasmus+ Mobility programmes opens up in January of the previous year of your planned Erasmus+ Mobility, i.e. if you are planning to take part in the Erasmus+ programme in September 2024, you must submit your Application in the prior January, by the deadline given.
