Damian's BSc in Architectural Technology from South East Technological University (SETU) has brought him on worldwide adventures including a AUS$16 billion road tunnel and motorway upgrade in Australia where he is now based.
SETU Architectural Technology graduate Damian Ennis hails from Dromcollogher, Co Limerick. He reflects on his life since graduating.
Enjoyable and engaging
My time at SETU was enjoyable, engaging and challenging. It was a course packed with assignments and late nights, as well as the occasional post-assignment celebration in the city – followed by takeaway at Istanbul!
After graduation, I worked in Dublin and Limerick on everything from an architectural competition for Trinity College Dublin which we won, to residential developments - before taking off for 12 months of backpacking.
Settling in Sydney
I settled in Sydney, Australia and started working at a mid-size Architecture firm, on community libraries, gyms, aquatic centres, etc. I then moved to working as a design manager (project managing large teams of designers) on major infrastructure projects.
I recently set up my own consultancy firm, assisting large contractors in winning government contracts and delivering them on time and in budget. I also give industry guidance to investment funds, which are seeking insights into the major projects industry in Australia. My latest project was a $16 billion road tunnel and motorway upgrade in Melbourne while studying part-time for my MBA.
Ethics learned at SETU
You may not know where the road will take you, but the ethics that I learned in SETU have given me opportunities time and time again. I am grateful to the staff and fellow students who guided me through some tight deadlines and the odd late night. Despite it all we always had a laugh; I can certainly say I made friends for life.
