Acing your CAO choices involves careful consideration, research, and strategic planning. Here are some tips to help you make informed and effective decisions when applying through the CAO.

It’s important to choose courses that align with your interests, passions, and long-term career goals. This will keep you engaged and motivated throughout your studies.

1. Research, research, research

Explore a wide range of courses and institutions. Look beyond the course names and delve into the specifics of the curriculum, teaching methods, and available resources. Research the potential career opportunities associated with each course. Consider the employability and job prospects upon graduation. Investigate the job market and career prospects for different fields of study. Opt for courses that offer promising job opportunities and align with industries that interest you.

2. Review entry requirements

Ensure that you meet the entry requirements for each course. Check specific subject and grade requirements, as well as any additional assessments or portfolio submissions. Ensure you meet the necessary academic qualifications and prerequisites to enrol in each program.

3. Prioritize your choices

List your course choices in order of preference. Consider what matters most to you in terms of course content, location, and other factors. This order is crucial as it will determine the offers you receive. Be open to considering related courses or those with similar entry requirements. This flexibility increases your chances of receiving an offer.

4. University reputation

Research the reputation and ranking of the universities or colleges offering your chosen courses. Consider factors such as faculty expertise, research opportunities, facilities, and alumni networks.

5. Attend open days and take a campus tour

Attend open days or virtual events organized by universities. This gives you a firsthand look at the campus, facilities, and the overall environment. Take advantage of online resources, forums, and social media platforms where students discuss their experiences with specific courses and institutions. This can provide valuable insights.

6. Location and campus life

Take into account the location of the university or college and the campus environment. Consider factors such as campus facilities, extracurricular activities, student support services, and overall quality of life.

7. Ask those in the know

Seek advice from teachers, career counsellors, or other educational professionals. They can provide valuable insights and help you make informed decisions. Don't worry, you can never ask too many questions!

 8. Cost and financial aid

Evaluate the cost of tuition, fees, and other expenses associated with each course. Explore financial aid options, scholarships, grants, and student loans to help fund your education.

9. Stay informed about changes

Keep yourself updated with any changes or announcements made by the CAO. Make sure you are aware of deadlines, procedures, and any adjustments to the application process. Before submitting your CAO application, carefully proofread your choices. Confirm that your preferences are listed in the correct order and that all details are accurate.

Remember that the CAO application process is a crucial step toward your academic and career goals. Taking the time to make well-informed choices can significantly impact your educational journey. If you have specific questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to the CAO or seek guidance from educational professionals.
