The Ulysses Conference offered a unique platform for discussions between experts across different fields and organisations.
Dr Anique Godjo, a researcher from SETU's enviroCORE, recently attended the prestigious Ulysses Conference, which focused on "Marine Biodiversity and Resources in a Changing Environment." The event brought together researchers, innovators, policymakers, and key funding partners, including Eirgrid, SEAI, Ademe, and RTE France, to explore how research can effectively shape policies on issues that affect both Ireland and France.
Dr Godjo commented, "At SETU's enviroCORE, we work on various environmental research topics, and participating in this conference gave me valuable insights into what other researchers are doing to sustain our environment and the future of our planet. The strong social focus really impressed me, especially regarding how youth engagement can enhance our sustainable actions, and ensuring that the opinions of coastal communities are heard when legislation could impact their lives."
Dr Godjo was joined by Ms Katie Phair, a Research Ireland (formerly IRC) PhD scholar from enviroCORE, who was also invited to participate. Together, they hope to continue contributing to the improvement of the continent’s environmental health through collaborative research efforts.
The Ulysses Conference offered a unique platform for discussions between experts across different fields and organisations, reinforcing the importance of shared research and policy initiatives in addressing critical environmental issues.
It was an amazing day and a great honour for me to be invited to participate in such an important event. I am immensely grateful to Research Ireland for giving me the opportunity to learn and discuss perspectives on how research could ideally inform development on topics that are in the interest of both Ireland and France.
