SETU lecturers Brendan Jackman and Dr. Frank Walsh were delighted to welcome Mr. TJ Breen and Ms. Indira Queiroz from Valeo Vision Systems (Tuam, Co. Galway) to the Waterford Campus.
Valeo is a leading supplier of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to the automotive industry. Examples of such systems include autonomous parking and automatic emergency braking systems for high-end vehicles.
Students of the BSc (Hons) in Applied Computing (Automotive & Automation Systems) course were given a masterclass in the latest ADAS systems by Mr. TJ Breen, System Validation Manager at Valeo. Afterwards there was an opportunity to see first-hand one of the Valeo test vehicles equipped with the latest sensors and data logging equipment.
Commenting on the visit Mr. Breen said "I am delighted to have the opportunity to meet with the faculty and students of Automotive Systems on the Waterford campus. The student's interest and understanding of the ADAS developments lead by Valeo are very encouraging for their future in this industry."
The delegation from Valeo also met with Waterford campus students to talk about career opportunities at their Galway facility with a pop-up stand in the Atrium.
The BSc (Hons) in Applied Computing (Automotive & Automation Systems) course on the Waterford campus prepares students for employment as automotive software engineers in the global automotive industry, with many alumni working in development roles at leading automotive companies such as Valeo and major car manufacturers.
