Darren Rudkins was very happy during his time at South East Technological University (SETU) as he felt the combination of theory, practical and work placement prepared him well for employment.
"The small class sizes are a big bonus, it means more one-on-one between the lecturers and the students, so if you are finding something challenging they will give you a lot more time." SETU Graduate, Darren Rudkins
Darren chose SETU “for quantity surveying because the courses are accredited, and it was kind of close to me as well so it was handy to get to and from.“
Small class sizes
The small class sizes are a big bonus, it means more one-on-one between the lecturers and the students, so if you are finding something challenging they will give you a lot more time, they’ll sit down with you after class and give you a hand.
Beneficial work placement
There's no doubt that work placement helped me with my studies. When you get to go on your work placement, you get a real-life situation, what you learn in college you get to put into practice and apply it. And it’s through applying it you get to learn more skills which you can carry over to your final year and use it as a graduate in your proper full-time job after college.
Best four years of my life
It’s been brilliant, the social life is excellent, the college life is good, there’s a homely feeling around the college, even around the library as well, you go in and you are doing your work and you kind of know everyone, you’re saying hello here and there. I’m sad it’s finished, to be honest, it’s been the best four years of my life, I’d love to go back and do it all again.
Future plans
For the moment I’ll stay where I am working right now, which is Carron & Walsh as a graduate quantity surveyor. I’m working towards getting charters, I’ve started my APC in quantity surveying at the moment, in and in the coming years maybe I'll do some travelling.
