Staff at SETU in Waterford are this week welcoming visiting Professor Meg Benke from SUNY Empire State College in the United States.
The aim of Professor Benke's visit is to work with the SETU School of Education and Lifelong Learning to advise and share practice and research experience in lifelong learning, technology-enhanced learning, professional development and emerging areas including micro-credentials in higher education.
A former SETU Fulbright scholar, Professor Meg Benke, Ph.D. has held a number of prestigious posts during her time at SUNY Empire State College. These posts include academic affairs vice president, dean of the Centre for Distance Learning, vice provost, provost, and acting president.
Professor Benke will also meet with various working groups from the School of Education and Lifelong Learning, research-active staff, and the Learning Management System (LMS) integration group.
Hybrid Event
Professor Benke will hold a collaborative hybrid talk with SETU’s Centre for Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) Community of Practice on Wednesday, 11 October where she’ll discuss ‘Harnessing Student Engagement for Student Successes: Using Data and Course Redesign’. This event will detail approaches to foster student engagement using module redesign and the LMS/VLE to promote retention.
In addition, the professor will lead a discussion on the potential of predictive analytics – drawing on her experience with the SUNY system. Attendees will also observe insights on how thoughtful course redesign can be harnessed to promote student success – all while fostering a vibrant learning community.
Dr Helen Murphy, SETU's Head of the School of Lifelong Learning & Education, noted the importance of Professor Benke's visit in shaping future policy. She said: “We are delighted to have Meg visiting the School in person to advise us on our strategic planning.”
