Olivia, a recipient of the SETU President's Scholarship, was drawn to apply as it is not solely based on academic achievements or sporting ability.
"I knew the scholarship would allow me to achieve in many different ways and has been a great way for me to meet like-minded people who carry the same interests as I do." SETU student, Olivia Cusack
Olivia Cusack, a past pupil of St Marys Secondary School, Nenagh, County Tipperary is one of four students at South East Technological University (SETU) to be recently awarded a President's Scholarship. The 1st year student is studying Intellectual Disability Nursing. Her dreams for the future include having a dual qualification in Intellectual Disability Nursing and Paediatrics.
Drive to help people
I have always carried an interest in nursing and a significant drive to help people in any way possible. I have followed this through by taking part in local volunteer work such as taking part in my local 'Special Summer Camp', which enables children with additional and special needs to socialise and have fun during the summer break through local volunteers.
Determined to make a change
I have always wanted to study at SETU and heard about the scholarship through a spokesperson for the college who gave a talk at my school. I was drawn to the idea of filling out an application form for the President's Scholarship as it is not solely based on academic achievements or sporting ability like many Scholarships and awarded to those who have shown an interest in their course before starting college and are determined to make a change. I knew the scholarship would allow me to achieve in so many different ways and has been a great way for me to meet like-minded people who carry the same interests as I do.
