Learning about Irish history and the Irish language, as well as excursions to tourist attractions in Ireland made the course enjoyable for South East Technological University (SETU) graduate Niamh.

"Given Waterford's fantastic reputation as a tourist city, it seemed like a no-brainer to come and study here. " SETU Graduate, Niamh McCarthy-Griffin

Niamh McCarthy-Griffin from Wicklow is a Higher Cert in Business in Tourism graduate and has since progressed into SETU's BA (Hons) in Tourism Marketing.

Beneficial placement

I loved learning about Irish history and the language. It was really interesting, our lecturers brought us on tours of Kilkenny Castle and places I never would have seen on my own. We had placement during the summer between our first year and second year. I completed my placement at a hotel in Laragh, Co. Wicklow. There, I worked as a receptionist and waited on tables. It was great!

Waterford as a tourist city

I would certainly recommend this course to someone! It was thoroughly enjoyable; I learned so much. I didn’t think that I would learn the things that I did. My advice would be to stick with everything, it can get tedious at times but it is really enjoyable. There are not a lot of colleges that offer tourism as a course. Given Waterford's fantastic reputation as a tourist city, it seemed like a no-brainer to come and study here.

A positive atmosphere

Probably how nice everyone is! Everybody knows everyone, the lecturers are lovely, and the courses are nice. There's just such a positive atmosphere on campus all the time.
