Rebecca Troy, a past pupil of Presentation Secondary School, Waterford is one of four students at SETU to be awarded a President’s Scholarship. The first year student is studying for a BSc (Hons) in Software Systems Development.
Contribution to school life
Reasons for Rebecca receiving the award include her contribution to her school community with roles such as prefect, mentor, and librarian; Her extracurricular achievements and interest in performance poetry with LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) and being a finalist in Poetry Aloud Ireland; also, her keen interest in her course area with the effort she had made to ensure she picked the right course for her - a comprehensive Software Studies course with the opportunity to study a European language.
'Everything I'd hoped'
Rebecca explains why she applied for the President’s Scholarship: “It was honestly down to my school Guidance Counsellor. As soon as I knew Software Systems Development in SETU was for me, he told me all about the Scholarship programme and insisted I should go for it, even though I didn’t think I had much of a chance! I have no regrets - I’m absolutely loving my time here in SETU and the course is everything I’d hoped.”
Rebecca's dreams for the future are to become fluent in German and to complete work placement in Germany. She also hopes to have a successful career in the software industry
