Oran Byrne works for Prestwick Aircraft Maintenance (PAM) Ireland which is Ryanair’s Irish base maintenance division located at Shannon Airport. A determined person; Oran is working to establish his career in aircraft avionics engineering.
Oran is currently studying within the B2 Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course at SETU and is working towards gaining the qualifications required to achieve his career goals.
SETU as a perfect fit
Oran first heard about the course through the training department at PAM Ireland. After considering his options carefully, he chose SETU due to the course's appeal and alignment with his professional goals, he said, “The course at SETU just suited me, I much preferred the look of what SETU had to offer."

One of the standout aspects of Oran’s experience at SETU is the dedication of the staff. The supportive atmosphere, combined with a beneficial blend of classroom learning and hands-on workshop experience, has made Oran’s time at SETU both engaging and rewarding.

Setting sights on a B2 avionics license
Upon completion of the course, Oran will be eligible to apply for a B2 Avionics license, opening the door to a specialised field of engineering that aligns with Oran’s interests. He said, “This qualification allows me to move into an area of engineering that really appeals to me."
Aiming for the skies
While Oran is passionate about aviation engineering, his ultimate dream is to become a pilot. He said, “I’ve always had an interest in becoming a pilot, but as I grew older, my fascination with aviation has grown as well. Pursuing aviation first allows me to satisfy both interests”. By building a strong foundation in engineering, Oran hopes to eventually transition to piloting, combining his skills and his passions.
