The Education Research and Doctoral Seminar Series continued in November, with the hosting of an inspiring lunchtime presentation by Dr Sarah Bates Evoy.
On 20 November, Dr Bates Evoy shared her reflections and learnings on the transformative journey of completing a PhD.
In her talk, titled ‘Reflections at the End of a PhD Journey’, Sarah shared the challenges, her personal & professional growth and the unexpected lessons that defined her doctoral journey.
She remarked, ‘Completing a PhD is not just an academic milestone, it is a transformative journey filled with challenges, growth and unexpected insights. I hope that by sharing my experiences, I sparked conversations and provided guidance to those navigating their own paths.’
The seminar was well-attended, with a full room of faculty members, PhD students and supervisors. The relaxed and informal setting of the seminar encouraged an open dialogue discussion, with attendees sharing their own personal experiences and reflections on the PhD process.
These lunchtime sessions are designed to create a supportive atmosphere for both presenters and participants, which facilitates meaningful exchanges and fostering a sense of community within the research environment.
This session provided valuable takeaways for both current PhD students and faculty members, offering inspiration, practical insights and guidance on navigating the challenges of doctoral research. It also served as a reminder of the importance of reflection and the sharing of experiences to support the development of others in the research community.
