The Bausch & Lomb Final Year Physics Project Award
Michael is the inaugural recipient of the award for the Best Final Year Project by a student of the BSc (Hons) in Physics for Modern Technology, sponsored by Bausch & Lomb.
Michael’s project, supervised by Dr Claire Keary, involved the determination of radioactivity in air filters by high-resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy. The project was carried out in collaboration with the EPA. The award was presented by Kevin Fahy, R&D manager at Bausch & Lomb.
Michael's Awards
Commenting after receiving both awards, Michael said: "I am extremely honoured to be awarded these two awards in the final year of my undergraduate physics degree. Winning these awards can be used as a springboard to further develop the skills that I have developed as part of my degree and hopefully move on with further success."
I want to take this time to thank my lecturers throughout college, especially course leaders Dr Claire Keary and Catherine Walsh for their extended support."
Going forward, Michael hopes that he will be able to utilise the skills that he has developed through college to work in a job that "never feels like a chore."
