South East Technological University (SETU) celebrated Climate Action Week 2023. As part of the university’s climate action journey, a number of events were organised to promote Climate Action Week 2023. SETU’s campus in Carlow was a hive of activity as employees from the Office of Public Works’ (OPW) ‘Optimising Power @ Work Campaign’ and BOLT, a European mobility app company that specialises in e-bikes and cars, spoke to staff and students about reducing energy consumption and encouraging less car use by using a BOLT e-bike when commuting to SETU.
Sustainability Manager at SETU in Carlow, Jessica O’Hara, commented, “While sustainability is something that many of us are trying to incorporate into our everyday routines, it can be hard to know where to begin. Events like this sustainable gathering provide people with the opportunity to connect with energy consultants and representatives of alternative electric bike transportation, where they can gain valuable insights, receive innovative ideas, and practical tips to seamlessly integrate eco-friendly practices into their daily routines. At SETU we continuously promote sustainability, recycling, reduction of energy consumption, and work towards reducing our carbon footprint.”
Climate Action Week created an interactive and educational environment for staff and students to engage in the climate action conversation. Aisling Dunne, Head of Public Policy for Bolt Ireland provided the opportunity to delve into the realm of electric bikes and offered complimentary helmets to attendees. There was also an opportunity for participants to complete a brief survey around the use of Carlow’s BOLT Bikes and receive a free 20-minute journey on a BOLT Bike.
Energy advisors from the OWP were engaged with students and staff, providing valuable insights into eco-friendly advancements, and address inquiries. An innovative 'Bright Ideas Board' was also present, offering students and staff the opportunity to contribute their sustainable ideas and the chance to win prizes.
