Sassy Kelly is a Carlow native who followed her family tradition of studying in her local technological university, SETU. Having attended St Leos College, Carlow, where she developed an interest in engineering, she decided to pursue this and study Aerospace Engineering, a course offering something different within the field of engineering.
"We have over 70 clubs and societies on the Carlow campus and this gives students an opportunity to experience many different things as well as meeting new people who are not in their class."
SETU Student, Sassy Kelly
Develop good troubleshooting and communication skills
As it is a challenging course it has helped me develop good troubleshooting and communication skills. I learned about the many different aspects of the aviation industry, so which has helped me to see which line of work is of most interest.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I hope to work in CAMO (Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation) and after a few years of working I’d be interested in coming back to SETU Carlow to study for my masters.
Chance to experience new things
One of my favourite things about coming to college is the new friends I’ve made here at SETU’s Carlow campus. I’m also enjoying being more independent and taking the chance to experience new things.
Another favourite thing is the variety of things to do on campus, we have over 70 clubs and societies on the Carlow campus and this gives students an opportunity to experience many different things as well as meeting new people who are not in their class. For my part, I’m a member of the gym which my friends and I use in the evenings to take a break from study.
Pick the college for the course
Don’t pick the college because it’s where your friends are going or because it’s away from home, pick the college for the course. Make sure the course you choose is something you are interested in.
SETU offers a great college experience
Yes absolutely, apart from having a wide range of courses, SETU Carlow offers a great college experience and organises many events throughout the year for students to enjoy. There is one for everyone.
