Representatives from the nine EU-CONEXUS Alliance universities participated in roundtable discussions as part of the Academic Council meeting at SETU's Carlow campus from 24-25 October.

The EU-CONEXUS Academic Council is a strategic decision-making body and plays a crucial role in shaping the governance and direction of joint educational programmes and activities centred on the theme of Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability.

SETU’s David Denieffe, Vice President for Student Experience, currently holds the strategic role of Council Chair, along with SETU representative, Dr Helen Murphy, Head of the School of Education and Lifelong Learning, who is also a council member.

David Denieffe remarked, “SETU is delighted to host this productive meeting and we look forward to future collaborative projects with our EU-CONEXUS colleagues. It is an exciting time for higher education in Europe, and SETU is proud to be part of this vibrant and innovative European Alliance.”

Schedule of Events

The two-day meeting featured an agenda that provided participants with an opportunity to discuss the development and delivery of EU-CONEXUS’ academic offerings, structure, and performance with a strong focus on quality assurance. The event also facilitated valuable networking opportunities, enabling participants to forge connections with their peers while experiencing the cultural and social attractions of the south east region.

SETU and EU-CONEXUS

SETU is a member of the EU-CONEXUS European University Alliance, which comprises nine universities across Europe. EU-CONEXUS offers joint education programmes, mobility and research opportunities. SETU is leading on the development of a Joint Master in Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability and 20 micro-credentials at Level 9.

To ensure these new programmes aligns with the needs of communities, industries, and the labour market across Europe, a skills survey was conducted across the EU-CONEXUS partner countries: Ireland, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, France, Lithuania, Spain, Romania, and Germany. Topics include green skills, green competencies, and green digital skills. The micro-credentials are set to be offered to mid-career professionals in the coming months. SETU is also leading on a developing a series of international careers development supports for students and staff in the Alliances with our university partners.
