The third Sustainability in the Arts Festival took place last week at South East Technological University, spotlighting the theme of 'Land, People, Culture'.
The award-winning festival brought together creative minds from across SETU’s Carlow, Waterford, and Wexford campuses, showcasing an impressive array of work by students including exhibitions, performances, workshops, culinary experiences, research posters, and more.

Sustainable Development Goals
Students and staff from international universities including Georgia Southern, Zadar, and La Rochelle joined SETU in delivering a packed programme of events.
Highlights included a debate, a coastal walking tour, and 'Sustainability Shots', all exploring sustainability through the lens of core challenges of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Collaboration
Dr Hazel Farrell, Programme Leader BA (Hons) Music and SETU Sustainability in the Arts Festival Lead said, “Largely student-led, the festival is built on an ethos of collaboration and inclusivity, incorporating both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
“The multidisciplinary projects and events show this in action with students joining together to address sustainability challenges that resonate with them.”

Community
Local secondary school students also took part by designing sustainable 3D models, with prizes awarded to students of Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School for standout entries.
In a special collaboration, the Waterford Lions Club partnered with the festival as part of their 60th anniversary celebrations.
“The ethos and work of the Lions Club aligns directly with the SDG and their work was showcased in a concert at College Street Chapel, where the SETU Irish Traditional Music Orchestra and music degree students wove their music through a narrative documenting the efforts of the Lions Club to sustain our local community,” said Dr Farrell.
Funded by SATLE, the festival once again transformed the University into a hub of sustainability-focused creativity, with more exciting opportunities to follow.
