Dr Lucy Hearne, School of Education and Lifelong Learning at SETU has been made an International Fellow of the National Institute of Career Education and Counselling (NICEC) in the United Kingdom.
This honour is in recognition of Dr Hearne’s professional work and scholarship in the field of guidance counselling.
NICEC was founded in 1975, as a "learned society for reflective practitioners in career education, career guidance/counselling, and career development. This includes those working in research, policy, consultancy, scholarship, service delivery and management, within education, the workplace, or the wider community".
Dr Hearne is a qualified guidance counsellor and a lecturer in the School of Education. Her teaching and research interests include lifelong learning, lifelong guidance, career development and practitioner CPD. She has experience in funded research including the Irish Research Council (IRC) awards, South East Regional Development Scholarship Fund (SERD) and Erasmus+ projects.
On hearing the news, Dr Hearne said "As a member of the SETU community, I am delighted to receive this recognition for my teaching and research in the field of guidance counselling that originated within the School in the mid-2000's with my PhD on adult guidance.
“It is an honour to become a NICEC International Fellow, which is an esteemed transnational organisation that profiles and supports the careers profession and contributes to the policy-making agenda on the international stage".
