South East Technological University (SETU) successfully launched Phase 2 of the New Frontiers Programme 2023. The launch took place at the Enterprise, Research and Incubation Centre (ERIC) located at the university’s campus in Carlow. Ten exceptional entrepreneurs showcased their business ideas from various sectors ranging from technology, sustainability, healthcare, and lifestyle.

New Frontiers is the national entrepreneurial development programme funded by Enterprise Ireland for ambitious individuals with innovative business ideas which have the potential to scale and provide employment. This programme provides customised support and expertise and is delivered at different stages throughout the year by SETU at its campuses in Carlow and Waterford. The university has a strong track records of successfully providing a business incubation environment that supports entrepreneurial development and company growth.

Gemma Purcell, New Frontiers’ Programme Manager began by extending a warm welcome to all participants and guest speakers. Gemma outlined the goals and objectives for the day ahead and provided a clear overview of what the exciting six-month programme would involve.

The launch was attended by representatives from Enterprise Ireland: Paula Carroll, Amanda Kirk, Ann Russell Walsh, and Ishita Gupta. They were joined by Aidan Shine from the South Eastern Business Innovation Centre (SEBIC) who encouraged the growth and success of start-ups in the region. Each representative shared their extensive knowledge and expertise in entrepreneurship and innovation offering invaluable advice and guidance to participants. Entrepreneurial topics such information on mentoring, training, networking opportunities and access to funding were central to the conversation.

Speaking at the event, Paula Carroll, National Programme Manager for New Frontiers remarked, ''Enterprise Ireland is fully committed to supporting early-stage entrepreneurs through the New Frontiers programme and are delighted to see a further ten founders commencing their journey on the programme delivered by SETU at its Carlow campus. A total of 170 individuals will have completed the programme across 18 locations nationwide by the end of this year, with a significant number of them going on to receive funding and support to grow their businesses from Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) and Enterprise Ireland through its Pre-Seed Start Fund (PSSF)."

Over the coming months, the New Frontiers Programme 2023 participants will undergo an intensive programme including mentoring, training, and financial support.
