The EAIE conference is one of the largest events dedicated to international higher education, bringing together educators, administrators, and policymakers from around the world. The conference was held in Toulouse from 18- 20 September.

About EAIE

For over 30 years, EAIE, European Association for International Education has provided a platform for knowledge-sharing, networking, and collaboration in the international education sector. The event includes workshops, sessions and a poster exhibition focused on best practices, emerging trends, and innovations in international education. It fosters global partnerships, enhances educational opportunities and promotes international student mobility. A key focus this year was the European Universities initiative, which continues to grow as a central theme, with many alliances participating.

SETU’s presence was led by Dr Don O'Neill and Dr Veronica Kelly, along with PhD students specialising in Internationalisation in Higher Education. Representing SETU were Denise McAllister Wylie, Christian Camilo Gordillo Sánchez, and Nidhi Piplani Kapur.

Dr Don O’Neill chaired a session on “Plotting for powerful professional development: Equipping academics for internationalisation of the curriculum” with colleagues from The Netherlands and Sweden. 

Denise McAllister-Wylie contributed to the poster session presenting ”En Route Inclusive Internationalisation in Irish Higher Education”. Denise’s PhD title is “Reimagining Internationalisation: connecting international and inclusive education in the changing context of higher education in Ireland”.

Nidhi Piplani Kapur participated in two panel sessions: ”Connections between Internationalisation at Home, Equality, Sustainability, and Decolonisation” and “Spotlight on Research in Internationalisation.” Nidhi’s PhD examines “Embedding a Culture of Internationalisation into the Curriculum through ‘Internationalisation at Home (IaH, “Preparing for the Changing Context of Higher Education in Ireland”.

Christian Camilo Gordillo Sánchez research title examines “An analysis of how Internationalisation of Higher Education for Society contributes to the role of Global Social Responsibility for Society”.

The conference showcased innovative research and best practices in international education, allowing attendees to engage with experts and exchange insights. SETU's active participation highlights its ongoing commitment to building global educational partnerships and enhancing international student mobility.

EU-CONEXUS at EAIE

SETU is also a partner in EU-CONEXUS, the European University for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability, which played a significant role at EAIE 2024. EAIE showcased several European alliances and EU-CONEXUS at SETU was represented by Bridget Cheasty, Communications Officer. EU-CONEXUS emphasises cross-border collaboration among European universities to address global challenges through multidisciplinary research and education.

At the event, EU-CONEXUS demonstrated its dedication to fostering mobility, developing joint programmes, and leading sustainability-focused projects. The alliance’s participation highlights how European Universities initiatives are at the forefront of innovation and cooperation in higher education.
