SETU spin-out company BioEnz Technologies Ltd. founded by Dr Lee Coffey, has been named one of Ireland’s top emerging businesses in the prestigious Business Post ‘Hot 100 Startups’ list for 2024. This recognition highlights companies that exemplify energy, creativity, and resilience while shaping industries, driving economic growth, creating jobs, and transforming local communities.

About Dr Lee Coffey
Dr Lee Coffey, CTO and founder of BioEnz Technologies Ltd., is a highly regarded researcher within the SETU community. As a lecturer in Molecular Biology with Biopharmaceutical Science at SETU’s Faculty of Science and Computing and a leading researcher at the Pharmaceutical and Molecular Biotechnology Research Centre (PMBRC), Dr Coffey has earned over €2 million in research funding through prestigious grants from Enterprise Ireland and Science Foundation Ireland (now Research Ireland). He has supervised 14 PhD and postdoctoral researchers, authored 25 publications, and holds 5 patents currently pending across multiple regions. Through his work at SETU, Dr Coffey has licensed over 1,400 biological research technologies to multi-billion-euro global companies.
