South East Technological University’s (SETU) Ihor Melashchenko, has become the first Ukrainian student to be awarded as Student Ambassador by Education in Ireland’s Student Ambassador Programme 2023.

The programme is one of a series of initiatives by Education in Ireland aimed at raising awareness of the high quality of Irish third-level education, and assisting and encouraging potential students from overseas who would like to study in Ireland. Student ambassadors are awarded and tasked with sharing their experience of living and studying in Ireland, as well as giving fellow students an insight into their culture.

Ihor was one of a number of students chosen to represent Ireland’s higher education institutes as ambassadors. These ambassadors become a voice for the student experience in Ireland, showcasing the wonderful opportunities on offer in the Irish higher education sector. The SETU community is thrilled to have Ihor represent the university as ambassador.

Ihor is a Software Development student at SETU’s Carlow campus, having just completed his first year of study. He was able to incorporate his technical skills into his role as student ambassador by creating captivating video content that highlighted the unique features of SETU and the vibrant student life awaiting international students at the university.

Speaking on his experience, Ihor commented, “My time as student ambassador has been a great experience for me where I’ve had significant personal growth and built lasting connections by representing Ukraine and promoting the world-class educational opportunities available in Ireland, particularly at SETU. I would encourage any international students looking to embark on higher education in Ireland to seize similar opportunities.”

The Student Ambassador Programme awards took place at a ceremony at Trinity College, Dublin, where ambassadors from participating countries were present. This multicultural celebration fostered unity and collaboration, showcasing the programme’s commitment to global connections.
