South East Technological University’s upcoming (SETU) Computing Project Expo promises to be an immersive experience, offering attendees an insight into the latest industry trends and potential career opportunities with leading ICT companies.

Set to be bigger and better than ever, this year’s expo on Friday, 24 May at the Tourism and Leisure (T&L) Building on SETU’s Cork Road Campus in Waterford, combines innovative computing projects, an industry showcase, and student awards into a single event.

Sponsored by digital ad solutions company, Kargo, the event offers over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate final-year students a platform to demonstrate their projects, while also providing attendees the opportunity to network and engage.

For the first time, leading ICT companies from across Ireland will participate in an industry showcase, allowing them to engage with the students, promote their enterprise, and explore opportunities in collaboration with SETU.

Sponsored awards

In addition, Sun Life Financial, Dataworks, Red Hat and UNUM will present awards to students in recognition of their excellence in creativity, innovation, and design. This recognition not only celebrates individual achievement, but also serves as a testament to SETU’s dedication to fostering a culture of excellence.

Speaking ahead of the event, Dr TJ Mc Donald, Assistant Head of Computing and Mathematics Department, said, “This event offers a unique opportunity for attendees to gain first hand insight into the innovative projects being developed by our computing students in BSc Computing, HDip Computing and MSc Computing at SETU.

“It serves as a platform for industry professionals to engage with students, discussing the current needs and desires of the industry and how academics can play a pivotal role in facilitating discussions. Ultimately, connections lead to exciting collaborations that drive innovation in computing.”

Future innovators

Event sponsor, Kargo, added, “these events highlight the crucial collaboration between industry and academia, providing a platform for future innovators to showcase their incredible work. We're especially proud of our long-standing relationship with SETU, with 70% of our Ireland-based team being SETU graduates. We can't wait to see everyone at what promises to be an amazing event."
