First and second year Tourism and Event Management students from SETU’s campus in Wexford embarked on their first industry familiarisation trip of the academic year.

The group visited several local tourism providers to gain insights into the opportunities and challenges of working in Ireland’s tourism sector.

The trip began with a visit to GoPaddle in Enniscorthy, where Susan Doyle shared her enthusiasm for adventure tourism. Students were captivated by her passion, and gained valuable insights into the seasonal nature of Ireland's tourism industry.

Next, the group visited The Village at Wheelocks, where they enjoyed lunch at the on-site restaurant. Carol, one of the hosts, introduced them to the agri-tourism sector and the significance of fresh, locally-grown produce, offering the students a taste of fresh strawberries.

The final stop was at Enniscorthy Castle, a historic Norman landmark. The students met with manager Mico Hassett, who shared the rich heritage of the castle, a site that has attracted tourists since the 1960s and now also serves as a unique venue for intimate events.

These immersive trips provide SETU students with invaluable real-world insights, helping them understand the diverse facets of Ireland’s tourism industry.  The students will be on the road again exploring the tourism potential of Ireland’s Ancient East.
