On Tuesday, 10 December 2024, the Technology Transfer Office held an introductory seminar for researchers, in the area of Intellectual Property.

The session started with a brief introduction to the TU RISE aims and objectives by Dr Alessandra Heggenstaller, followed by Dr James O' Sullivan, SETU Head of Innovation and Commercialisation. Dr O' Sullivan spoke about collaboration agreements, and the importance of involving the TTO in the early stages of any potential industry collaboration.

Dr Nadav Ben-Haim, Commercialisation Case Manager with the TTO gave a detailed presentation on the different types of intellectual property (IP) and the different ways available to researchers to protect their research outputs.

This was followed by an engaging Q&A session, where attendees really engaged with the topic of IP and the TTO team used real-world examples to highlight the intricacies of IP law.

"As an early career researcher, this seminar was extremely informative. One of the biggest takeaways for me was that researchers should engage with the Technology Transfer team as early as possible when developing research projects to ensure that agreements are in place to protect any potential IP generated."

Dr James Cullen, researcher at SETU Department of Science and Computing
