The spectrum of research activity in SETU is realised by the efforts of a huge array of dedicated professionals. The entire research community and its supports are involved to ensure the University's performance with respect to securing research funding from a range of competitive funding programmes, attracting and guiding excellent postgraduate students, engaging with and collaborating with research bodies such as the Irish Research Council (IRC), Higher Education Authority (HEA), Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), Fulbright Commission, Health Service Executive (HSE), and many others.

Our academic research community is networked into the global research community and quality assured through collaborations and peer review publications. It ensures that our postgraduate masters and PhD programmes provide our students with opportunities to carry out research with some of the leading research centres around the world. The university has created a research and innovation ecosystem bringing together researchers, students, entrepreneurs and established companies focused on ensuring that our research activities are internationally benchmarked, strategic and economically relevant.

Industry plays an important partnership role in the development and operation of our research strategy.  We have focused our resources on building centres of research excellence in areas which are strategic important for Ireland and the South-East region. These include Bio-Pharma, Communications Networks and Mobile Services and Advanced Manufacturing.  The excellence of our research activities has enabled us to develop strategic partnerships with global industrial leaders and indigenous High Potential Start-Ups creating real economic benefit.
