The SETU Technology Transfer Office (TTO) is the primary point of contact for companies, researchers and organisations wishing to develop or acquire technologies, knowledge or use our facilities under a collaboration or licensing agreement.
The focus of the TTO, is to ensure that these technologies are applied within the wider business community in order to enhance Ireland’s competitive advantage and international reputation whilst creating sustainable jobs and contributing to our economic growth. The TTO will be the first point of contact for industry and other external agencies interested in collaborating with the university and exploring how SETU Waterford experts can add value to your business.
The TTO is co funded by Enterprise Ireland under the Knowledge Transfer (KT) Boost Programme. The Enterprise Ireland (EI) KT Boost programme is a new four-year €33.4 million programme directed to Irish universities. co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union under two European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Regional Programmes – the Southern, Eastern and Midland Regional Programme 2021-2027 and the Northern and Western Regional Programme 2021- 2027.
The role of the TTO
- Promoting awareness of and educating the University's research community on issues relating to intellectual property protection and technology transfer;
- Identifying, capturing and protecting intellectual property arising from research activities within all areas in SETU.
- Developing and executing strategies for the commercialisation of technologies. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with SETU researchers to identify the commercial application of the invention, determine licensing strategy.
- Prepare written non-confidential descriptions, and attend conferences, seminars and exhibitions to promote university technologies.
- Negotiating options, licenses, Campus Company and collaborative research agreements.
- Supporting promoters in the assessment and development of technology and business plans for spin-outs.
- Developing and implementing policies, procedures and systems ensuring institutional best practice in relation to intellectual property management and technology transfer.
- Liaising with Enterprise Ireland, patent agents, industries and other external professionals, as necessary, in relation to patents and commercialisation activities.
