Research Interests

I am currently one of the directors of the gameCore research initiative at SETU Carlow.  You will find more details of both consultancy work undertaken and current research on the gameCore website.

My main research interests are:

  • Gamification, specifically gamifying for health improvement and rehabilitation.
  • Concurrency, specifically offloading to coprocessors such as the Intel Xeon Phi or GPUs, and how they can be successfully used in both gaming and simulations.
  • Agent Based Modelling.

Engagement and Collaboration

I actively participate in Innovation Vouchers, European projects and Innovation Partnerships.

Current Research Students

  • Francis Lyons: Increasing Engagement to Improve Wellness.
  • Gavin Clarke: The effects of gamification on the formation of a habit of studying in tertiary level students
  • Sanaul Haque: Using game Elements to Guide the Journey of the Postgraduate

Areas of interest as a supervisor include:

  • Gamification
  • Agent Based Simulation
