Biography

Lecturer in Management in SETU School of Business with a background in Sociology and Engineering. I lecture in Organisation Studies (Organisation Behaviour, Organisation Psychology & Organisation Design) and Operations (Operations Management, Lean Practice, Operations Excellence & Continuous Improvement). 

I am a senior researcher on Horizon 2020 HECAT: Disruptive Technologies for Labour Market Decision Making and PEStech: Making the Labour Market Visible, supported through the SFI National Challenge Programme

 

An interdisciplinary sociologist, organisation studies and STS researcher, I explore the lived experiences of work and unemployment. My current research runs along three tracks; focusing on transformation and change in organisations and work, including being PI on two projects researching the effects of the Irish marriage bar on women in banking and digital transformation of banking; exploring changing practices of care in places of work through tracing flows between policy/rules and relational practices; finally, as a member of Waterford Un/Employment Research Collaborative (WUERC) I research the lived experiences of unemployment and digital transformation in Public Employment Services.

 

Education: 

2016: PhD with the Centre for Finance and Business Research in SETU. "An Alternative Banking Inquiry: A Grand Narrative of Organisation Culture and Change1960 to 2000"- The research explored the working lives of bankers and the cultural transformation in banking from the 1960s and was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Seán Byrne and Dr. Ray Griffin. 2012: MSc in Business Innovation Technology and Entrepreneurship (mBITE)

2011: BA(Hons) majoring in Sociology

My current research is focused on unemployment and the labour market and how big data and algorithms organise opportunities for jobseekers. We are expanding this research to an international level and are interested in opportunities to collaborate with researchers across this topic. We are preparing proposals for the final 2018-2020 work packages in Horizon 2020 with a particular focus on SC6- Europe in a changing world.

I am currently exploring relations of care in provision of state welfare and across organisations.

My broad research interests include the organisation of labour and work, especially the formation of identity through work and careers. I also have an interest in organisations and how their culture and form is linked to the prevailing norms and transformations of society and the economy.
