The Estates Department oversees the planning, development and maintenance of the campus physical facilities and rented premises, land and infrastructure. The Estates Department provides a complete facilities' management service to both staff and students. Some of the many services provided by the function include caretaking, portering, energy management, waste management, cleaning, grounds maintenance, car park/ traffic management and plays an important role in relation to Health & Safety.  The Department offices are located in D428 on the ground floor of the Burrin Building.

For the submission of all reports or service requests pertaining to Estates, it is imperative to utilise the designated channels of communication. When reaching out to the Estates Department to report faults, request services, or any related matters, it is encouraged to furnish comprehensive information. This includes, but is not limited to, providing details such as room number, a thorough description of the fault or service requirement, the name of the individual initiating the request, and any additional pertinent information. Your cooperation in offering detailed information will facilitate a more efficient and effective response from the Estates Department.

Parking enforcement measures will be enforced for vehicles found in violation of parking regulations, encompassing those without a valid ticket for Pay & Display spaces. In the Wexford location, a restricted number of complimentary parking spaces are available at the front of the main building and within the Top Car park situated off Summerhill Road.

The University has a sophisticated closed circuit television system throughout the University which is in operation 24/7 and it is monitored by the Estates Office. We do advise, however, that the best method of security of personal effects is to be vigilant and make use of the lockers available. The following are some points to bear in mind:

  • If you see someone acting suspiciously on campus, you should contact the porters on extension: 5020 or call into the porter’s office in the Catering Services Building (opposite reception).
  • Do not leave any valuables unguarded.
  • Avail of the lockers and keep your locker key safe.
  • Be careful with money, keep it with you at all times and do not carry large sums of money.
  • Securely lock your bike to the bicycle racks provided.
  • Write your name and class group on all books, calculators, folders and other belongings.
  • Take normal precautions regarding your personal safety both on and off campus.

The University cannot accept any responsibility in the event of losses or theft of property.

The University has a no smoking policy operational throughout the whole of the University’s Campuses. Smoking including e-cigarettes is not permitted in any of the buildings, outside any entrance or anywhere on the campus grounds, other than in the designated smoking shelter which is located between the Kileshin Building and the Burrin Building.

Incident Report

In the event of an accident or incident, students and staff should notify the Head of Department or supervisory staff (e.g. lecturer), as soon as possible after getting first aid treatment. The Head of Department or staff member to whom the accident or incident is reported must complete the Accident/Incident Report Form within 24 hours. Staff or students may also report the accident or incident directly using the link. The aim of accident reporting is to learn from the event and prevent re-occurrence. Reporting is also a legal requirement.

Note: An accident is an incident which has given rise to injury or ill health or fatality. An incident where no injury, ill health or fatality occurs may also be referred to as a ‘near miss, ‘near hit’, ‘close call’ .

Incident Report

A number of staff are trained in First Aid and First Aid Kits are available throughout the University. The list of qualified First Aid Personnel is available from the University's Human Resources Department.

Defibrillators

Please note that Defibrillators are kept in the following locations in the University:

  • Catering Services Building – Outside the Main Reception
  • Barrow Centre – Sports Office
  • Engineering Technology Building – Main Foyer
  • GAA Stand – Entrance Hall
  • Physiology Lab (C149) has a mobile unit
  • Wexford Main Campus (St. Peters)
  • Art & Design Campus

Each area of the Campuses have an assigned assembly point, students and staff should familiarise themselves with the location fire exits and assembly points. There are ‘You are here’ signs located on the back of room doors and in the stairwells which indicate the location of the fire exits and the directions to the nearest assembly point.

When the fire alarm is sounded, all staff and students must:

  • Stop all work and activities.
  • Put chairs, stools away and remove other items to ensure passageways are clear.
  • Switch off all moving machinery and equipment.
  • Leave the area using the designated evacuation route.
  • Walk and move quickly, do not run.
  • Do not shout, keep quiet and pay attention to the fire marshals.
  • Stay with a group, do not straggle.
  • Avoid crowding, do not push or engage in ‘horse play’.
  • Do not return to the building to collect personal items etc.
  • After leaving the building, move directly to the assembly area.
  • Do not smoke at any time during the evacuation.

You should only return to the building when instructed to do so by the Fire Marshals.

Anyone caught maliciously breaking/ vandalising any of the fire break glass units, exiting through a designated fire doors or tampering with fire fighting equipment will be subject to disciplinary regulations.
