Biography
Gerard is currently Head of Department of Accounting and Economics at the Waterford Institute of Technology, where he has worked for almost 30 years. He is responsible for the day-to-day organisation of the department including staffing, timetabling, academic standards and examinations. Over the years, Gerard has lectured on a range of programmes from Certificate to Master’s degree level and on professional accounting courses. Gerard has also been an examiner and marker for various major professional accounting bodies and has been an external examiner in many Universities and Colleges in Ireland and the UK.
Prior to his post at the Institute, Gerard began his career as a Trainee Accountant before joining Deloitte & Touche as an Audit Senior where he was responsible for the completion of fieldwork for a range of clients.
The department has about 35 full-time staff and about 450 students. The courses in this department include the
