Biography

My education as an Engineer started in Bolton Street, DIT,  with an honours degree in Production Engineering and MA in Mathematics from TCD. In addition I have added a MEng, MEng and Technical Doctorate to my qualifications. I am a Chartered Member of Engineers Ireland for over 20 years.

During the first ten years of my career as a Production/Manufacturing Engineer I worked in the area of new products in the automotive industry in the Loire Valley, France, the toy industry in Waterford, Ireland and the sunglasses industry also in Waterford, Ireland.

Around this time I also was involved in a Brite Euram research project in the Department of Experimental Physics, Maynooth College, Co Kildare, I lectured in Bolton St. DIT in the evenings and undertook a research Masters in Engineering in Dublin City University.

I am currently the Programme Leader for the BEng in Manufacturing Engineering course (WD208) and the BEng in Mechanical Engineering (WD207) . I have an interest in the following areas: inclusion, diversity and equality in engineering, mentoring, engineering ethics, environmental design and effective communications skills

In 2019-2020 I was Chair of Engineers Ireland South East Region, 2018-2019 Vice Chair, and from 2016-2018 Secretary. I am the WIT third level Advocate for Engineers Ireland and have coordinated EI STEPS Transition Year programmes.

Since 2017 I have sat up and coordinated four Erasmus exchange programmes for the School of Engineering: IUT Dijon/ Université de Bourgogne, IUT Aix-Marseille Université, Czech, University of Life Sciences Prague and Technical University of Sofia, Bulgaria.
