Biography
Dr. Michael Breen is a chemistry lecturer in the Department of Science in WIT and is the programme leader for the BSc (Hons) in Agricultural Science. Dr. Breen obtained a BSc. (First Class Hons) in Chemistry at UCD, before completing a PhD in Physical Chemistry at Waterford Institute of Technology (in conjunction with the Materials and Surface Science Institute at the University of Limerick). Since joining WIT in 2000, Michael has lectured at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in areas such as chemistry, environmental science and agricultural science.
Lecturer in Chemistry (WIT) since 2004. Programme leader for Leader BSc. (Hons) in Agricultural Science for the past 10 years. Currently teaching modules in organic chemistry, environmental chemistry and advanced topics in physical chemistry. Nominated for WIT Teaching Excellence Award 2015.
Dr Breen’s current research interests include the application of surfactants to the area of ‘Green Chemistry’ and is currently investigating the use of foliar fertilisers in high saline soils. Michael is part of the EIRC (Eco-Innovation Research Centre) in WIT.
