Biography

Shane is a Civil Engineer and a Chartered Member of Engineers Ireland.  He joined IT Carlow (now South East Technological University (SETU) Carlow) in January 2005.  He has lectured across all the programmes in the Department of the Built Environment, currently delivering modules on Materials, Concrete Technology, Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics. 

 

Shane is very actively involved with Engineers Ireland (EI). He has been a committee member of the South-East Region of EI since 2007, where he has filled numerous roles during that time (PRO, Liaison Officer, Vice-chairperson, Chairperson and Treasurer since 2010).  He regularly sits on interview boards for EI Chartered Engineer Interviews. He also has been invited numerous times to be a panel member of EI accreditation visits reviewing Civil Engineering programmes delivered at other Universities.

 

Prior to joining IT Carlow (now SETU Carlow) Shane worked with Civil Engineering Consultants and Contractors in Ireland on the civil and structural design and construction of Buildings, Roads, Bridges and Water Retaining Structures. He was also a founding Director with MPA Civil/Structural Engineering Consultancy helping the fledgling business grow during his time with the company.

 

Outside of work, Shane has a keen interest in many sports – rugby, soccer, golf, swimming, football, hurling/camogie to name a few.  He is an active committee member of his local dual GAA, Camogie and LGFA clubs, where he is also involved in coaching (those who can’t play, coach!) numerous age grade teams for the three clubs since 2015.
