Prof Sheila O'Donohoe

Having taught on a range of programmes in the School primarily on Finance related modules my current teaching involves joint delivery of three innovative modules on our taught postgraduate progammmes, namely, Contemporary Issues in Business (formerly the Seminar Series) the International Study Tour and Research Paper 3: Governance and Ethics. I am enthusiastic about my teaching and it is research led.  As Finance is a very dynamic discipline I frequently incorporate the Financial Times into my teaching and assessments.

Small Firm Finance

One of the key themes in the AIB Centre much of Sheila’s past and present PhD supervision relates to the financing of SMEs, She has also worked on this topic with a number of PhD and Masters by Research students and has a number of collaborators nationally as well as in Germany and Italy. Output from this work to date has been published in Irish Accounting Review, Journal of Corporate Finance, The European Journal of Finance and Irish Management Journal. 

Sustainable finance:

Encompassing an increasingly important topic in both finance teaching and research, three of  Sheila’s current PhDs she is co-supervising on are focusing on this area. More specifically, these include an exploration of low carbon investing by institutional investors, risk disclosure in green bond prospectuses and financing SME sustainable investments in Europe.

Teaching and learning funding:

Co-devised the Strengthening and Protecting the Funds Industry in Ireland project in collaboration with John Casey of WIT, Munster Technological University and industry partners under the Human Capital Initiative Pillar 3 (Department of Education Future Jobs Ireland) grant of € 2,048,180 awarded October 2020. The funding will permit the establishment of an Academy for Investment Fund Executive for a four year Level 9 Programme aimed at strengthening and protecting the Funds Industry in Ireland which has the capability of transforming the sector in the region.
