Advanced entry: Years 2, 3 or 4
An applicant can make an advanced entry application into the second or subsequent year of any courses offered by SETU if they are currently completing, or have successfully completed, a minimum of one year of study at Level 6, 7 or 8 in a Higher Education Institution or an equivalent. Those who hold a QQI FET/FETAC level 6 qualification can also use the facility to apply for a place on the second year of a relevant course.
- Prior to applying we advise that you review the set minimum entry requirements for the specific programme.
- Applicants must have successfully completed their previous year(s) study, you can not carry any outstanding credits.
- Admission into years 2, 3 or 4 is subject to the availability of places.
Advanced entry: Add-on courses
These are specific courses that link on from one level to another, e.g. Level 6 to Level 7. For advanced entry to other years of other courses please view the next tab, advanced entry: Years 2, 3 or 4.
- Follow-on Level 7 courses designed for those who have completed a relevant Level 6 course.
- Follow-on Level 8 courses designed for those who have completed a relevant Level 7 course.
Important information
- When completing your online application, you must ensure that you have entered your correct email address as this will be used for all correspondence.
- The entry requirements for each course vary. The academic entry requirements are successful completion of the previous years of the programme, or equivalent.
- If there are more qualified applicants than places available on a continuation course, SETU will rank qualified applicants and will award places which will be offered to applicants in order of their rankings.
External applicants must apply through the CAO website – www.cao.ie.
Supporting documents should be sent to the CAO using the CAO document cover sheet. Applicants should include:
- Exam results
- Transcripts
- CV
- Details of relevant work experience
- Any other information that may support their application

Offers can be made to successful candidates on an ongoing basis in July and August. Offers will be made by email only and all acceptances must be made online via www.cao.ie by the deadline.
- An advanced entry applicant has 14 days to accept an advanced entry offer.
- Advanced entry applicants can accept multiple courses but only the last acceptance at the closing date for acceptances will be recorded as the accepted course.
Note
- Should you accept your offer, you will be issued with registration instructions by email.
- 2025/2026 Start SETU will take place in early September 2025 (tbc). Your online registration instructions will detail your exact dates.
- Classes commence for all undergraduate students in September 2025 (tbc).
